Rural Girls and the Challenges of Life

I am a girl from a rural community Ngada to be   precise in Gombi local government area of   Adamawa state. I’m above 20 now, schooling in   one of the best polytechnics in the country. That is   the federal polytechnic, Mubi

I considered myself lucky because many girls that we’ve   started school together are either drop out or can’t afford to   continue for one reason or the other.

Girls in rural communities do loss opportunities of life especially education for lack of care or understanding of how to plan life to reap dividends where their parents, relatives and their community will benefit

In most rural communities girls do suffer because their parents or care givers don’t help them plan their future, as a result some get pregnant along the way through deception by boys or raped.

Some girls are the problem of themselves for example a friend of mine is presently out of school because of pregnancy. She always admires us and regrets choosing boys than school.

Things that affects girls education in most rural areas include:- Deception by boys, poor parental guidance, poor community policy, lack of awareness among others.

These and many factors led to the increase of suffering of girls in our society

It is common to see to teenage pregnancy in rural areas and the girl took the burden those that got her pregnant goes free

It is common to rape rural girl and walk free

It is common to stigmatize rural girl with either witchcraft or cultism because she choose to build her life

It is common to see a rural girl leaving in extreme poverty simply because she is a girl, if by chance she make something through labor, she hardly enjoy it alone

That’s how they leave in most rural areas

Statistics shows that there are over 9.5 out of school children in Nigeria more than half of the number are girls by implication the country is loosing a lot in terms socio- economic development.

It is on record that many women Excel in life by contributing in human development. The likes of Ngozi Oweala, Amina Azzubair and many others are doing well in various fields of human endeavor

Our rural girls too can make it with good support and guidance.

Let there be a policy to protect them against those taking advantage of their weakness

Let there be a community involvement in giving girls equal rights like the one given to boys. If a boy get a girl pregnant or did anything that will affect her future let him pay more price than she pays

Let there be a policy to force girls back to school after pregnancy

Let there be awareness and involvement of FBOs, CSOs in making girls realize that youthful exuberant in most cases leads to regrets

I’m a girl I know the challenges I’m facing especially from the opposite sex.

I’m a girl I only focus on my goals. Support a girl today to enjoy a better society tomorrow. Remember if you educate a girl today you educate a nation.
