Journalism Not Corrupt But Disturbed
Followers of the popular Hausa series LABARINA showing on
the famous Arewa 24 have recently been bombarded with what some described as
degrading journalism profession where
one of the producers of the series Who also featured as Sarkin Waka directed
his aid to give a journalist a fare after an interview. His action was
condemned by many.
After the show of the episode 11 of season 3 of the series
attacks and counter attacks dominated the air all over the Hausa speaking areas
and some journalists even threaten to sue the producers of the series for
deformation of character.
The question is are
journalists not receiving gratitude to either kill a story or turn black to
white?
The answer is, some do accept that. That is why journalists
called it brown envelope or Roger or choppe.
As there are bad journalists so also bad actors. Bag eggs
are every where. The producers should have portraits the good side of the job
rather than the bad. After all the journalist featured asked relevant questions and got his answers right but the conclusion went wrong on the side of
journalists.
It is a well known fact that some news publishers and
broadcasters don’t pay their workers but give them ID card to serve as a meal
ticket and that has degraded the profession especially in Nigeria and that pave
way to the likes of producers of LABARINA to insult the Noble job.
It is high time for regulatory bodies to sanitize the
profession by allowing only train journalists operates. And media proprietors
pay their workers.
For the producers of LABARINA they apologize on their action.
For journalists they should desist from any act that will
tannish the image of the job. Because a journalist is a gentleman.
