ADAMAWA STATE RECORDS 22 DEATHS IN ONE MONTH AS A RESULT OF ROAD ACCIDENTS

oad accidents are common in Nigeria and claims many lives on daily basis. The accidents mostly occur as a result of human errors that are avoidable.

 According to a report published by the world life expectancy web page, Nigeria is ranked 41 among the countries with high cases of road accidents in the world

In the report cases of road accidents in Nigeria has reached 29.30% in year 2020 and that has negative effect on the nation’s socio-economic development of the country.

It is common to see victims of road accidents in all the nooks and crannies of Nigeria. Some lost their legs, some hands or a vital organ in their body thereby making them cripples.

The accidents are attributed to poor roads network, over speeding, drug abuse, poor vehicle maintenance among other errors

According to the national bureau of statistics 2,080 road accidents were recorded in Nigeria in the year 2020. From the record 5,535 persons injured and 855 killed during the year under review.

The statistics further said out of the 5,535 that got injured 5,165 were adult while 369 were children. In the adult list, 4,393 were male and 1,142 were female

From 855 persons killed, 788 were adult and 67 were children representing 92% and 8% respectively. The revelation further said 694 were male and 161 were female.

In the NBS 2020 roads accidents report,2,334 vehicles were involved , 64% were commercial  vehicles, 35% were private and 1% were government vehicle.

In Adamawa state over 35 accidents were recorded from March to April, 2020. Killing over 22 persons.

Commenting on the ugly happenings the chief vehicle inspection officer, Adamawa state Abdullahi Nyibangs Mahdi said most accidents are avoidable but negligence and I don’t care attitude are the reasons that led to the unwanted happenings.

Accidents are killing us , it is therefore very important for all to work towards stopping it. Remember a good driver is the one who drive home safely.
